Be Aware of the Civilian Abuse in Syria
Numerous and serious human rights violations were reported by the United Nations to happen during the Syrian civil war. The war was reported by the United Nations as that kind of war devoid of compliance to the norms set by the international law, leading to sufferings of civilians that cannot be measured as a result of warring parties.
Both the United Nations and human rights organizations cited the violations of human rights done by both the government and the rebels, with the most of the abuses done by the Syrian government.
Aside from the conduct of torture and extrajudicial killings, the Assad regime was blamed of using chlorine gas as chemical weapons against the civilians. There is also an accusation to Assad for “indiscriminate and disproportionate aerial bombardment and shelling” that spread terror and led to massive casualties of civilians. There were reports also of war crimes committed by the Free Syrian Army and rebel groups, such as the recruitment of children to become soldiers, populated civilian areas that were shelled, members of religious minorities being murdered or taken hostages, and poisonous gas being used.
The bloody conflict of Syria is now on its 3rd year, with painful images of civilians attacked by bombs from the air, different abuses, physical assaults and rape on women, and other atrocities that are beyond words and imaginations that led people to write about what is happening in Syria.
Other heartbreaking facts revealed about the conditions in Syria, including schools, houses, hospitals, water systems and large areas of cities crumbled to the ground, leaving 80,000 Syrians to have been killed among which were thousands of children.
Imagine a refugee camp in Lebanon during the months of winter, with the surroundings covered with snow and people are trying to get warm by going inside boxes and covering themselves with little cloth, and eyes of despair from children staring at you.
Inside the refugee camp, women will tell you how their homes, lives, careers and practically everything were lost in just seconds. Brothers, husbands, and sons were lost in the war according to women, not to mention their trauma after being raped. Peace and nothing else are what these women could wish for, leaving behind their careers and their past happy and peaceful lives.
Syria and Iran considered themselves as strategic allies and this is a fact that explained how supportive is and why there is presence of Iran in Syria in many ways. Iran has aided the Syrian government during the Syrian civil war since 2011, through the Iranian revolutionary guard, by increasing the level of technical and personnel support so that Syria will have the “ability to deal with protesters”, plus sending equipment to control riots, and giving techniques to monitor intelligence.
